Image Manipulation :

In order for an image to appear on a web page it must be in either GIF or JPEG format. Use GIF format for images that are solid colors with sharp borders. Use JPEG format for images with many colors or gradations of color. Fireworks has export features designed specifically for web graphics. (Also see Photoshop Export).

Please move your cursor over the image below to view the same options in Photoshop. (Note : the link serves no purpose).

1. Open kremlin.png from the tutorial images you downloaded (see: Download) in Fireworks.

2. Choose File > Export to compare image quality and download times for GIF and JPEG formats. Use the split screen option (found above the default button) to view two different settings at once.

If both images appear as GIFs, then click on any one image, and in the Format box (in the upper left hand corner) choose JPEG. Once you have observed the difference between the two images, click on the left button in the image on the left, and click Ok.

Finally, name and save the file.
